"Funds raised by this raffle will be used to support asthma programs and services for the children of Saskatchewan. We continue to offer education to families and caregivers to encourage asthma self-management skills and to support asthma research in Saskatchewan," stated Dr. Brian Graham, The Lung Association's President & CEO.
Asthma is a chronic lung disease. It is characterized by difficulty in breathing, causing a combination of coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, or tightness in the chest. Asthma can develop at any age but is most common in children. Lung Association studies have shown that more than one fifth of children in Saskatchewan are affected by asthma. It is the leading cause of childhood hospitalization and school absenteeism. Asthma cannot be cured. Although potentially life-threatening, it can be controlled in most cases with education, environmental changes, and medications.
